Wednesday 7 June 2017 the first Aquaviva container with live lobsters has arrived in Yerseke. Krijn Verwijs Yerseke B.V. is the first importer of lobsters to be transported in this way. Krijn Verwijs Yerseke B.V. is constantly seeking for the best products worldwide. Its focus on quality, cultivation methods, transport and innovation leads to a constant supply of high quality produce. Transporting lobster via shipping containers with a simulated aquatic environment is very suiting to that aim.

Aquaviva is a life support system for lobsters developed by CMA CGM and EMYG. Aquaviva containers are designed by biologists to simulate a stress-free environment. This new generation containers creates the possibility to transport lobsters in their cultivation waters and preserving their natural habitat. The development of this innovation is based on the specialist expertise from CMA CGM and the unique technology INNOPURE®. This technology is developed by EmyG Environment & Aquaculture, an international engineering firm specialized in industrial grade water filtration devoted to the quality of life shellfish. Because of its long collaboration with EMYG, KVY has been given the opportunity to take part in this project.

Benefits of the Aquaviva life system:

• Maritime transport is considered the most cost-efficient method of transport
• Lower carbon footprint than air freight. For comparison, maritime transport: 406g CO2 emission per kg per km or 133kg CO2 emission per container per km air freight: 672g CO2 emission per container per km
